Does anyone have any idea on how to manipulate the stats I've come up with so far to accommadate these two varieties?
|
Using the stats posted above as a start. Up the DR to 8 for Torso and head and 6 for the base. This will represent the bulkier and heavier version. Increase its stinger range to 2"
For the lesser version, drop the DR to 3 for all locations, drop the Shiv to 2, up Dodge to 3 and Speed to 6. Allow a +2 save vs. the poison.
That gives you two very distinct creatures with different uses. _________________ Richard A. Johnson

You sir, are a legend.
Thank you kindly. These stats look great! I really can't wait to get them on the table to see how they perform.
Now I can work on the scenarios to put them in.
Thanks again!

I have uploaded some photos of the painted Triffids I intend to use (only a couple up there so far, but more to come!)
Also, there is the beginning of a board that I can use for the scenarios.

Cheers,
Ben.
PS. Rich, if I was to make some stat cards for the Triffids, would it be alright to upload them on my site for download? If that's not ok, don't worry, just wanted to check first. Thanks. _________________ Come and see my hobby blog at: http://boromirandkermit.wordpress.com |

I have decided to just use John Wyndham's world and create scenarios that might be happening in other places to other people that the book "The Day of the Triffids" does not address. This is what I have so far.
INTRODUCTION
The Triffid menace had grown wild and uncontrolled since the green meteor shower blinded most of the population. Pockets of survivors dug their heels in across the country, building great fences around their properties.
The many blinded were either scattered to the winds or had latched onto the few gifted with sight.
Off in the English countryside, there was one such house. The group of people inside has managed to hold off the Triffid menace for several months. But things were going downhill fast. They were dark times, where life to some, became futile.
"What is the point of living if all we're doing is surviving!" reasoned William, impatiently pacing back and forth. His brow was furrowed and his hands could not keep still. They flailed in the air making swooping gestures.
Patricia's eyes followed his pacing, "We have to hold onto hope. We have not had a fence breached for quite a number of weeks now." Her voice was calm and confident. "Please, William, come and sit down. You'll wake the others"
William was just about to sit when there was a straining noise outside, like stretched metal. The pair ran to the window to see a horde of Triffids pushing at the fence. The wire was bending, straining... then snapping. A twanging sound split the air as the wire flew dangerously in all directions.
"BREACH! BREACH!" William hollered at the top of his voice. "BREACH IN THE NORTH FENCE!"
In but a few moments the small room was filled with the residents of the house... William, Patricia and three of their friends Terrance, Percy and Bethany.
"We must fight back the Triffids and repair the fence. But make haste!" William said resolutely. His eyes flickering with anger. With that all five survivors grabbed their makeshift weapons and ran outside...
PARTICIPANTS
William (Grade 3), Patricia (Grade 2), Terrance, Percy and Bethany (Grade 1s)
SETUP
The Survivors are placed at the South Edge of the 2'x2' board as if they had just run out of the house. There should be several trees and rocks scattered the board. Somewhere along the North board edge should be a spawn point for the Triffids. Use the rules for Spawn points in Valley of the Thunder Lizard. But instead of just placing one Triffid everytime you get to 10, place two. If your dice roll to get you over that 10 score is odd, place two Alpha Triffids, if it is even, place two Triffid Hybrids.
There are eight encounter markers scattered evenly around the board.
Ace: You have found some rolled wire that you can use to patch up the fence. If you have already found the Pliers and the wooden board, you can proceed to fix the fence.
Two: You have found a large wooden board! It is pefect for blocking the hole in the fence, while you repair it. If you have already found the Pliers and the rolled wire, you can proceed to fix the fence.
Three: You have found some pliers! They are going to be handy in fixing the fence! If you have already found the wooden board and the rolled wire, you can proceed to fix the fence.
Four: You have found a small bottle of Triffid anti-poison. You may use it at any time to ignore the effects of Triffid poison. Each time it is used, roll a D10 and keep track of the total. If at any time this total exceeds 10, the anti-poison is used up.
Five: You hear a clicking noise... then suddenly from out of nowhere, two Triffid Hybrids arrive. Place them anywhere within 2" of the enounter marker.
Six: BREACH! THE EAST FENCE IS BREACHED! Place another spawn point anywhere along the East fence. This fence may be repaired by performing a Brawn test at -2 whilst incontact with the spawn point.
Seven: Aerosol Can. What on earth is this doing here? If you have matches, you can use it like a Flamethrower. Use the following stats:
Range: 4" WS: 8
If a hit is scored all other models with 2" of the target model will take a hit at WS 4.
Cobbled together: This weapon has been hastily put together. After using it roll a D10. If the roll is 5 or less, the weapon is destroyed and cannot be used any more.
Eight: You see a small packet of matches behind a tree stump. They must have fallen out of your pocket during an earlier breach. As you go to pick it up, you hear a clicking and then a whoosh. Take an immediate Dodge test. If you fail you have been struck by an Alpha Triffid. If you pass, you grab the matches and then place an Alpha Triffid within 2" of your model. If you have the Aerosol Can, you can use it like a Flamethrower.
The game is won when there is no Breaches in the walls.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
Ben. _________________ Come and see my hobby blog at: http://boromirandkermit.wordpress.com |

This sounds great! It really is something very much from the novel.
As in the US it is the time of the year for Halloween stuff to start appearing in craft stores, you might be able to get some garden statues that could be used as spawn points. Also, if you want to make hedges, air conditioner insulation foam strips (or old kitchen sponge) spray-painted green and trated with a bit of model railroad shreded foam for making trees, works great. A few of these laid down will give the free of an English garden and you'll have the extra tension choke points from the "maze".
PLEASE post pictures! |

Ok, I have painted a few more Triffids and almost have enough to have a go at the scenario.
I am now working on the terrain. If anyone is interested, I will post some pics up soon.
Also if anyone uses the Triffid stat cards that I did, please let me know as I'd love to know how they went.
Cheers,
Ben.

Bringing this one back from the dead.
Was the game ever played? Are there any pictures? I'd love to see at least one picture of the WSD Triffid fighting a 28mm figure. |
